![]() I’m going to give it a shot anyway, after the cut. The reason for that is quite simple: this book is so monumentally impressive, writing about it seems like a task beyond daunting. ![]() It might seem odd to you, dear reader, that this column that celebrates the smaller press and non-capes and tights related books has not yet discussed Craig Thompson’s latest effort, Habibi - especially after the original version of this column so heartily celebrated his last major effort, Blankets (back when this was just written by David and no one else). ![]() ![]() ![]() The first image I thought of was of a young woman standing on a garbage dump island watching dragons attack a city. Where did you get the original idea for The Sky Is Yours, and how different is the finished novel from that initial idea? Three young people set off from home to seek their fortune in a ruined, dragon-plagued city that doesn’t give a damn about them or anything they do, where everything’s been on fire for a very long time. The first line of the novel is, “This is a story of what it is to be young in a very old world,” and I think that’s a fair description of the plot. To start, what is The Sky Is Yours about? But in talking to her about the book for the following email interview, she also mentioned the influence of some oddball cartoons, a couple video games, and one very funny fella you might not expect. With her new novel The Sky Is Yours ( hardcover, Kindle), writer Chandler Klang Smith mixes elements of fantasy, dystopian science fiction, noir, romance, and other genres with the skill of a hipster making one-off donut flavors. ![]() ![]() ![]() He gives the girl a belt that goes from her shoulder to her hip across her body like a sash and has pockets that would fit the chalk or crayons they all three carry. It is no wonder therefore, that with these ideas of every thing in their constitution and government at home, either in church or state, as illegitimate and usurped, or at best as a vain mockery, they look abroad with an eager and passionate enthusiasm. ![]() ![]() ![]() She was inducted into the Science Fiction Hall of Fame in 2006. 1.43K subscribers Subscribe 483 views 1 year ago In this final chapter will Menolly come into her own and make her way as a harper 0:00.
